Shadowborg is Vexor's own evil Beetleborg created from ionic DNA and insectite material stolen from the Blue Stinger Beetleborg. He was the central antagonist of the “Curse of the Shadowborg” arc.

Character History[]

Not only is Shadowborg created from the basic materials as Blue Stinger, but he is enhanced with powers that mimicked the powers of the other Beetleborgs. Shadowborg can run faster than the Green Hunter, jump higher than Red Striker, and remain underwater for 51 minutes.

Shadowborg's armor design is modeled after a longicorn beetle. With his Shadow Claw, Shadowborg can cut through any substance known to the planet. Shadowborg was successful in stopping the Beetleborgs, if only for a short while by stealing their powers. This led to the kids finding the Beetleborgs writer Art Fortunes who would then create the White Blaster Beetleborg.

However this still wasn’t enough, as Shadowborg easily trounced the White Beetleborg when the first fought, leading to the creation of Mega Blue Stinger Borg and the Thunder Stinger. He had a hostile relationship with the Terrible Trio, Typhus, Noxic, and Jara, and they constantly tried to dispose of him or humiliate him as they were afraid Vexor would replace them.

In the arc’s finale, Big Rumble in Charterville, Vexor challenged the Beetleborgs to one final battle. However it would be a difficult choice, as Shadowborg and the White Blaster Beetleborg are linked, and Josh would lose his powers once Shadowborg was destroyed. Drew engaged Shadowborg in a 1-on-1 battle, and both were decently matched. However as the battle went on, both Shadowborg and Josh became weaker, the latter slowly losing his Beetleborg and civilian powers.

Shadowborg, nearly on the brink of death, brought out Vexor’s mightiest weapon, the Deep Freeze, which he blasted Drew with. Drew then activated his Mega Powers, and said that Shadowborg was in trouble if that really was Vexor’s mightiest weapon. Shadowborg blasted Drew with the Shadow Laser in complete panic, but it did nothing. Drew aimed the Thunder Stinger at Shadowborg, and gave him one last chance to surrender, but Shadowborg responded with “Never”. Drew then told Shadowborg he couldn’t said he didn’t warn him, and fired an extremely powerful energy blast from the Thunder Stinger at the crippled Shadowborg.

Shadowborg took a direct hit in the chest by the beam, and yelled out in pain before falling over and exploding, though he did take all of Josh’s powers with him as he was destroyed. His face for some reason later appeared on Borgslayer, even though Shadowborg wasn’t seen among Vexor’s monster army.

Trivia[]

  • Ironically the character from Juukou B-Fighter that Shadowborg was based on did have a human identity, while Josh's character didn't.
  • Shadowborg is one of the few Beetleborgs monsters to be outright destroyed rather than just sent back to the comics, as he wasn't from the comics to begin with and thus couldn't be sent back.
  • His voice actor, the late Bob Papenbrook, also voiced Rito Revolto in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, another one of Saban’s Tokusatsu shows. In Big Bad Beetleborgs and Beetleborgs Metallix, he also voiced Borgslayer, Boron, Amphead, and Scorpix.
